Meet The Team

Hanna is in her final year of BA English. Her favourite fields of study are Postmodernism and socio-economic criticism. She likes reading obscure articles and will find any excuse to make an excel sheet about anything. Her hobbies are reading Russian literature, crocheting and watching rugby. In her spare time, she can be found rooting around thrift stores and antique shops for trinkets and vintage magazines.

Lauren is in her final year of BA English. She enjoys reading fantasy and dystopian novels (and doing her best to write a novel herself!). When she's not reading or writing, you'll find her in the gym, disassociating and daydreaming about aforementioned novels.

Book: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Marc is a final-year BA English student. After he finishes his degree, he plans on continuing his education and entering a master's programme. His academic interests include modernism, adaptation, and film theory. When he's not writing his dissertation on Wes Anderson or working on Double Space, he likes to spend time with his friends and going to book shops to add to his already too-long pile of books to read.

Book: Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman

Vinca is a final year student in BA English. Afterwards, she is going back to Barcelona to explore different career paths in publishing and translating to eventually do her MA. Her research interests go from women’s issues to history, especially in relation to nineteenth and twentieth century literature and women's role in it. She is also passionate about interlinking subjects and authors from different backgrounds, so her dissertation puts in dialogue Virginia Woolf and Catalan author Mercè Rodoreda.

Luca is a final-year English student. His academic interests include modernist poetry, ecocriticism, and contemporary Irish literature. As well as working with Double Space, Luca writes for UCC Express as Arts & Literature Editor.

Book: The Dancers Dancing by Éilís Ní Dhuibhne

Claire is currently finishing her second year of her English BA at UCC and will soon be heading to the Netherlands for a year abroad before returning to UCC and Double Space to complete her degree. She hopes to pursue a career in publishing in the future but for now, she’s happy to study everything from etymology to creative writing to intertextuality. When she’s not working at Double Space, you can find her writing bad poetry or reading excellent books.

Book: The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak and Crush by Richard Siken

Dante is in their final year of studying English, and is hoping to come back next year for an MA. Their areas of study are mainly Romantic and Victorian literature, Queer and gender theory, and Crime Fiction. They are said to resemble a Victorian orphan, particularly around exam season.

Adrian is currently in his second year of BA English. He likes reading and writing speculative fiction. He started writing many, many years ago and then decided last year to study it. He has written lots of short stories, and since starting his studies, has become fascinated with critical theory. He also likes strategy games, film, chocolate and urbex.

Ben is a BA English undergraduate at UCC, entering his final stretch of the second year. His academic passions centre around modernism and eco-gothic theory. He is a member of Double Space's social media management team

Venus is a second year BA English student. Consistently sporting a mildly off-putting amount of pink, Venus is working towards a combined career of publishing and editing after their degree. They are extremely passionate about horror, the Gothic, and gender studies in the early modern period. When they are not working on Double Space, locked in the Boole, or trapped in their torturous retail job, you can find Venus reading up on obscure horror media or nattering about HBO’s Succession to whoever is foolish enough to let them.

Book: The Virgin Suicides by Jeffery Eugenidies 

Sinéad is currently in the second year of her BA in English. After graduating, she would like to do a masters in literature and publishing. What she plans to do after that is a mystery to everyone, including herself. Her main area of interest is intersectionality in postmodern literature. Obsessively thinking about fictional characters and Greek mythology takes up most of her free time.

Alysha is in her second year in BA English she intends to work in publishing once finished her degree her main ares of interest are women in literature, creative writing and 18th century poetry. Next year she will also be going on Erasmus to Malta.
